Introduction

Finned Tube HE

When can we use the finned tube air heat exchanger?

If there is a big difference of heat transfer coefficient on both sides of the tube, fins should be added on the side with the smaller heat transfer coefficient.


Example 1:  Boiler economizer, tube side---water, fin side---flue gas.


Example 2:  Air cooler, tube side---liquid, fin side---air.


Example 3:  Steam generator, tube side---boiling water, fin side---flue gas. 


It should be noted that when designing, the side with the small heat transfer coefficient should be placed outside the tube as much as possible to facilitate the addition of fins.
