The hot water is pumped into the heat exchanger, which transfers the heat to a coolant such as a refrigerant or glycol. The coolant is then cooled in another heat exchanger and the cooled coolant is pumped back into the first heat exchanger to repeat the process.


The main advantage of a closed cooling tower is that it is much less susceptible to biological contamination than an open cooling tower. As the water is fully enclosed, there is much less opportunity for algae and bacteria to grow. Closed cooling towers are also more energy-efficient than open cooling towers because they can reuse the coolant, which reduces the amount of energy needed to keep the water cool.


However, closed cooling towers are more expensive to install and maintain than open cooling towers. They require complex piping and heat exchangers, which can be costly to repair or replace. They also require more electricity to run because they use pumps to move the coolant around the system.
