The purpose of pollutant biochemical properties
To understand whether the molecular structure of the pollutant can be broken down to an environmentally acceptable structural form by biological action and whether the rate of decomposition is sufficiently fast.
Therefore, the biochemical properties of wastewater are only considered whether biological treatment is used, and not what products are decomposed into, even if organic pollutants are removed by adsorption of biological sludge.
This is because in a treatment facility with a short retention time, certain substances are not decomposed in time. They are allowed to decompose gradually with the sludge into the digester.
1、Aliphatic hydrocarbons or n-alkanes are easier to degrade than aromatic hydrocarbons or cycloalkanes; unsaturated aliphatic compounds are easier to degrade.
2、The degradation of straight-chain medium and long-chain hydrocarbons is easier than that of short-chain hydrocarbons.
3、The degradation of carbon compounds above propane in alkanes is easier as the number of carbon atoms increases.
4、Insoluble substances, such as mineral oil, are resistant to degradation.
5、The molecular size of compounds is related to degradability. Polymers and complexes have a greater resistance to degradation, and enzyme molecules cannot approach and destroy their internal structure.
6、The isomeric effect of organic compounds has influence on degradability. The nature, number and position of replacement groups contained in compounds affect degradability.
7、When there are non-carbon elements on the main chain of the compound, the degradation is very difficult.
8、Phenols are easy to degrade, ketones are between aldehydes and alcohols, but butenones are difficult to degrade. Most of the organic substances represented by phenols can be degraded at low concentrations, but at high concentrations the toxicity will inhibit the life activities of microorganisms.
9. If the pollutants in the wastewater are mixed, the phenomenon of polymerization and compounding will increase their anti-degradation ability. The mixing of toxic substances will also increase the toxic effect.
10、The original substances in nature are easier to degrade, while synthetic substances are more difficult.
