Introduction of Shell And Tube Oil Cooler
A shell and tube heat exchanger can be commonly used in industrial applications as an oil cooler. The function of an oil cooler is to maintain a stable temperature for an oil-based fluid or lubricant. In this example, we will discuss the operation of a shell and tube heat exchanger as an oil cooler in a hydraulic system of a manufacturing plant.
The principle of operation
1. The hydraulic fluid runs through the tube side of the heat exchanger while the coolant runs through the shell side.
2. As the fluid enters the heat exchanger, it flows through a series of small tubes.
3. As the fluid flows inside the tubes, heat is transferred to the cooling water passing through the shell side.
4. The cooling water removes the heat from the tubes and carries it away to an external cooling tower or a closed loop cooling system.
5. The cooled hydraulic fluid then flows out of the heat exchanger and returns to the hydraulic system.
