What is the role of spiral heat exchanger in the oil production process?
In the process of oil production, the links that need to be cooled are mainly distillation and catalytic cracking in the refining process. Spiral plate heat exchanger is mainly used in distillation. Distillation is the process of separating crude oil into components with different boiling points at high temperatures, and the spiral plate heat exchanger can exchange heat between high-temperature crude oil and low-temperature cooling medium through conduction and convection, thus realising the cooling of crude oil.

The spiral plate heat exchanger operates as follows:
- Crude oil enters the feed side of the spiral plate heat exchanger, while the cooling medium (e.g. water or air) enters the cooling side.
- Inside the spiral plate heat exchanger, the crude oil and the cooling medium are arranged in a staggered manner by means of spiral plates, forming a number of independent channels.
- The crude oil flows through the channels and exchanges heat with the cooling medium to lower the temperature of the crude oil.
- The cooling medium absorbs the heat from the crude oil and at the same time is heated itself and then discharged through the outlet.
Cautions when using spiral plate heat exchanger:
- Temperature control: Ensure that the temperature and flow rate can meet the requirements of crude oil cooling, in order to avoid overheating or overcooling.
- Cleaning and maintenance: Clean and maintain the spiral plate heat exchanger regularly to prevent clogging and scale build-up and to maintain heat transfer efficiency.
- Material selection: choose corrosion-resistant and high-temperature-resistant materials to adapt to the corrosive media and high-temperature environment in the oil refining process.
